Ways to get Antique Wall Mirrors come a live

The antique mirrors may have rust stains and even small scrapes, scratches or blows to them in certain places echo lose their reflective properties, exposing the back of them. Solving the problem of imperfections caused by blows, is extremely complicated, because although we strive to always repair will notice small imperfections in the repair. For, we try to do it drop on the back of the mirror, a drop of mercury to cover the imperfection, and cover it with a hard material that can make this liquid metal is fixed to the rear.
If this option does not allow you to repair the mirror or the imperfection is located at the edges, you can choose to purchase a larger framework that the pair of highlight and decorate it allows us to hide imperfections. Although it will be very difficult to repair imperfections we may try to conceal them.
At antique shops, wall Mirrors have been used for more than two thousand years, but its use spread from the seventeenth century. They had a bath composed of an amalgam of tin and mercury, it looked grainy and metallic. A mid-nineteenth century, the bath was changed to silver with a lead shield red or brown paint.
Often found in the storage room or basement of our house items, furniture and decorative objects that we inherited from our grandparents, parents, or have given us and not use it because they have aged over time and need restoration.

An example are the mirrors in the houses essential for its functionality, and offer an air special homes, as they give the feeling of spaciousness, of amplitude, especially in our home environment is a few dimensions. Antique furniture are not as complicated and also be cheaper, is something we can do ourselves, which is a bonus. Just follow these small and useful tips:
  • First will remove dirt and dust accumulated a bit of cotton soaked in a mixture of water and detergent. Rub with special emphasis on corners and gaps where more frequent dust. With a clean cloth will dry wet surfaces.
  • Cut a piece of steel wool very fine. The piece, small and flat, it will serve to rub, without marking the frame in order to remove the last layer of wax that has worn wood. The work will always be in the same direction as the wood grain.
  • We cover the mirror edges close to the frame with paper paste , to avoid contaminating the glass. Then apply a thin layer of wax (of which more later) to skate on the wood. Will be in three batches: the first in the direction of the vein, then through it and more with the grain.
  • We let the wax dry for 15 minutes.
  • To shine by rubbing with a cloth, flannel cloth or brush. If you want the frame to shine again, we can apply a layer of wax, this time in a single pass. Then come back to polish, as many times as you want until you get a texture, color and light that we seek.
